I can't hear any sound on AVex

The audio is muted during DVD/video recording or converting, if you can't hear any sound during recording/converting, that's normal. However, if you still can't hear audio of the output file, there's something wrong with your audio codec, or some incompatible problem between your video and audio codecs. Don't panic when you have this problem, it can be resolved as described below:

1. Upgrade to DirectX 9.0c. Download and install MpegDecoder-1/2, AC3Filter, and choose "Microsoft DVD Navigator" as DVD navigator, MpegDecoder012 as DVD Video Decoder, AC3Filter as DVD Audio Decoder in the "DVD Settings" dialog.

2. If you're using the AVex Video-Only Converter(inlcuding AVex iPod Video Converter, AVex iPhone Video Converter, AVex Apple TV Video Converter, AVex Zune Video Converter, AVex PSP Video Converter, AVex 3GP Mobile Video Converter, AVex Video Converter Platinum), there won't be any "DVD Settings" in "Options" menu. You need to:

(1) Download the K-Lite Codec Pack, if the link doesn't work for you, download it at: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm, and install it on your system

(2) Click windows "Start" menu -> "All Programs" -> "K-Lite Codec Pack" -> "Tools" -> "GSpot Codec Information"

(3) Click the pink button " ... ", select the original video file(s) to be checked

(4) At the bottom of GSpot program, click the pink button "1" under "MS A/V", the GSpot program should display the audio filter and video filter used by the original video file, e.g.:
Render OK; the following combination of filters was used:
(Src)-->[CoreAVC Video Decoder ]>--(A)-->[Video Renderer ]
(Src)-->[ffdshow Audio Decoder ]>--(A)-->[AC3Filter ]>--(B)-->[Default DirectSound Device]

It's possible that the original video file can't be rendered by the GSpot program, it will probably prompt the error message as shown below:
Warning: DirectShow Crashed while attempting to render this file
This is usually due to damaged, misconfigured, conflicting, or poorly written codec drivers. It is possible, perhaps even likely, that other media players will crash when they attemp to play this file as well, as most of them will also use DirectShow. Although GSpot was able to intercept the crash, attempts to identify the codec which caused it have failed. Unfortunately, no additional information is available at this time.

Please don't panic when you see this warning. You can uninstall your Xvid codec, restart, reinstall Xvid Codec; or uninstall and reinstall your ffdshow codec. Meanwhile, apply this uninstall and reinstall process on your Graphics Card Driver and DirectX 9.0c.

(5) In Step (4), if you're able to read the audio and video filter:
(Src)-->[CoreAVC Video Decoder ]>--(A)-->[Video Renderer ]
(Src)-->[ffdshow Audio Decoder ]>--(A)-->[AC3Filter ]>--(B)-->[Default DirectSound Device]

uninstall the ffdshow and AC3Filter, or whatever the audio decoder and video decoder shown on your GSpot program, restart your system when possible. Then you should be able to no audio problem.

3. If you have installed PowerDVD 5 or above, WinDVD 5 or above, you should uninstall these DVD players, which will uninstall the video decoder and audio decoder coming with the DVD player. Then reinstall PowerDVD or WinDVD. Then open AVex program, go to menu "Options", click "DVD Settings", modify the DVD Setting as any ONE of the following Combination, but don't mix them up, e.g., don't mix Cyberlink Audio Decoder with Nero Video Decoder:

* DVD Navigator: Microsoft DVD Navigator
Audio Decoder: AC3Filter
Video Decoder: MpegDecoder012
* DVD Navigator: Microsoft DVD Navigator
Audio Decoder: Cyberlink Audio
Video Decoder: Cyberlink Video Decoder
* DVD Navigator: Microsoft DVD Navigator
Audio Decoder: Intervideo Audio Decoder
Video Decoder: Intervideo Video Decoder

AVex convert problem - ICSeqCompressframeStart failed. Check AVI codec settings

This error message is caused by not installing Xvid codec, or incompatible Xvid version.

To eliminate this error, uninstall Xvid codec, download and re-install Xvid 1.0 final codec at United Digitals, and it should solve your problem.

If it is not working for you, uninstall your AVex program, download the latest version at United Digitals, reinstall it on your system. Then this error should be gone.

AVex convert problem - My Computer system freezes/becomes frozen when recording DVD movie/video file

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del, see if your computer has any response. If no response, you need to write down any error message and then restart your system.

It's very hard to debug the system freeze in windows platform. You may look up the minidumps under folder \windows\minidumps, focus on the red alert at system event.

According to our expertise on AVex , the program should not cause the computer to freeze. Something else might go, such as memory defect, DVD Drive defect, an improperly installed device driver, or even a defected mother board.

You should Run a diagnose over night and see if there is a 1 bit error. Download it at: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/wi , or http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp or search google for other tools, you can also run memtest to intensively test the ram.

Meanwhile, upgrade your device driver, patch your graphics card, check if your mother board has overheat problem, and make sure there is no capacity leaking problem on your mobo or processor.

AVex convert problem - AVex reports: windows encounter a problem and needs to close

First, please go through the previous steps to install the DirectX 9.0c, MpegDecoder012 and AC3Filter. If you have already installed DirectX 9.0c, uninstall and reinstall it.

Then, install Xvid 1.0 Final Codec here.

Uninstall and reinstall the AVex program, if possible. Details click here.

After that, open AVex program, go to menu "Options", click "DVD Settings", modify the DVD Setting as any ONE of the following Combination, but don't mix them up, e.g., don't mix Cyberlink Audio Decoder with Nero Video Decoder:

If you can't see the above settings on your system, go through the previous steps to install MpegDecoder012 and AC3Filter first, and try again.

AVex convert problem - AVex works ok on video files, but doesn't work on DVD movies

First, make sure the AVex program is for DVD movie conversion, if you purchased AVex Video-Only program (inlcuding AVex iPod Video Converter, AVex iPhone Video Converter, AVex Apple TV Video Converter, AVex Zune Video Converter, AVex PSP Video Converter, AVex 3GP Mobile Video Converter, AVex Video Converter Platinum), which doesn't convert DVD movies. You need to purchase the AVex DVD Program, such as AVex DVD to iPod Video Suite, AVex DVD to iPhone Video Suite, AVex DVD to Apple TV Video Suite, AVex DVD to Zune Video Suite, AVex DVD to PSP Video Suite, AVex DVD Ripper, AVex DVD Ripper Platinum, AVex DVD & Video Converter Pack, AVex DVD to 3GP Mobile Video Suite, etc.

Double check that your DVD disc is not scratched, damaged, and your DVD-ROM is functioning. Even a DVD movie can be played by the DVD player, it doesn't necessary mean that it can be read by AVex. Unlike normal playback disc reading, the spinning speed during converting/recording will still be maximized, thus causing the disc unreadable by AVex.

If the problematic DVD movies are brand new, try converting the same DVD movie on another DVD-ROM(preferred new DVD-ROM), see if it is caused by the DVD-ROM. If it can be read by the other DVD-ROM, then you should replace your old DVD-ROM with another one.

Please open AVex program, go to menu "Options", click "DVD Settings", modify the DVD Setting as any ONE of the following Combination, but don't mix them up, e.g., don't mix Cyberlink Audio Decoder with Nero Video Decoder:

AVex convert problem - AVex used to work without any problem, suddenly it stops working

First check if your system is clean.

The problem is probably caused by installing too many incompatible codecs on your system. Please use the GSpot Codec Information Tool to detect any incompatible codecs, such as Ligos audio and video codec, MontiVision Deinterlace filter, etc. GSpot Codec Information is included in K-Lite Codec Pack. Uninstall these codecs might solve your problem. To make it work better, have your system rebuilt and have only the necessary standard codecs installed, among which are: MpegDecoder012, AC3Filter, Cyberlink Audio and Video Decoders (version 6+), InterVideo Audio and Video Decoders(version 6+), Nero Audio and Video Decoders (version 6.18). And install the DirectX 9.0c (details click here), if possible.

Then open AVex program, go to menu "Options", click "DVD Settings", modify the DVD Setting as any ONE of the following Combination, but don't mix them up, e.g., don't mix Cyberlink Audio Decoder with Nero Video Decoder:

AVex convert problem - AVex used to convert DVD movie/video file at a much faster speed, now it takes longer hours

You probably installed some programs/applications after AVex's installation. Some media-related programs contains non-standard codecs, which might slow down the recording/converting speed, or even corrupt them.

Meanwhile, Make sure your system is clean and is not affected by virus, back-door malicious program.

If you have installed some applications since you installed the AVex program, make sure these programs are not messed up with the original working audio and video decoders on your system. You can use GSpot Codec Information Tool described above to detect any incompatible codecs, such as Ligos audio and video codec, MontiVision Deinterlace filter, etc. Uninstall these codecs might solve your problem. If you did install lots of programs such as TV Card Driver, third-party media players, etc, we strongly recommend you rebuild a clean system, then install as few codecs as possible, install those which are compatible with AVex, or in other words, standard codecs compatible with Windows Media Player, such as MpegDecoder012, AC3Filter, Cyberlink Audio and Video Decoders (version 6+), InterVideo Audio and Video Decoders(version 6+), etc, and try converting the movie again.
